Countdown to the Next Long Weekend

Not every federal holiday makes a long weekend — this counts down only to the ones that do: a holiday landing on a Friday or Monday (so it's attached to the weekend), or Thanksgiving, which is practically always a four-day break. By default it targets the first day of the long weekend itself — switch to 5 PM on your last workday before it instead, and set your own time and time zone, with the dropdowns below.

How do you decide what counts as a long weekend?

A federal holiday that lands on a Monday or Friday after the standard Saturday/Sunday observed-date shift, or Thanksgiving — which isn't officially a Friday holiday, but is treated as a long weekend here since taking the Friday off is close to universal.

What day and time does the countdown target?

By default, the first day of the long weekend itself — for a Monday holiday that's the Saturday two days before it; for a Friday or Thanksgiving holiday, the holiday's own first day. The Day dropdown below the countdown switches to 5 PM on your last workday before the break instead, and you can set any time and time zone.
