How accurate are the times?

Within a minute or two. They're computed with the standard solar-position algorithm from each city's coordinates, live in your browser, so they're always for today — nothing here can go stale.

Whose time zone are the times in?

Each city page shows times in that city's own local time zone, labelled on the page.

What's the difference between sunrise and first light?

First light (civil dawn) is when the sun reaches 6° below the horizon — bright enough to see clearly. Sunrise is when the sun's upper edge crosses the horizon itself.
