Marvel announced this cast like no film before it. On March 26, 2025, an unannounced livestream opened on a film-set door creaking ajar, and a crew member set down a director's chair bearing Chris Hemsworth's name. Over the next 5 hours and 27 minutes, 27 chairs appeared one by one — including X-Men legends Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen — while 275 million views poured in and #AvengersDoomsday held the top trending spot on X for more than seven hours. It became Marvel Studios' biggest livestream ever.

Getting ready for December 18

Doomsday opens exclusively in theaters, and Avengers openings are events: tickets typically go on sale weeks ahead, with opening-night IMAX and premium-format seats going first. The story gathers heroes from three universes — the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the original X-Men — so a Disney+ refresher pays off; Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (both 2025) lead most directly into this film.
