The kid who wept after Interstellar

A LaGuardia High theater kid from Hell's Kitchen, Chalamet landed a role in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar at 18 and assumed it was his big break. At the premiere he discovered how small his part really was - he later admitted he went home and wept for an hour. Three years on came the real break: Luca Guadagnino's Call Me by Your Name, which made him, at 22, the third-youngest Best Actor Oscar nominee ever.

From spice deserts to chocolate rivers

Few actors have ever stacked hits this fast. Wonka grossed $634 million worldwide in 2023; Dune: Part Two took $715 million in 2024, the year's seventh-biggest film. Then he disappeared into Bob Dylan for A Complete Unknown, spending years learning guitar and harmonica - and at 29 became the youngest Best Actor winner in SAG Awards history. In October 2024 he even crashed his own lookalike contest in Washington Square Park, posing with the doppelgangers.

The paycheck he gave away

In January 2018, at the height of his breakout, Chalamet announced he did not want to profit from his role in the film A Rainy Day in New York and donated his entire salary to three organizations: the Time's Up legal defense fund, the LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN, the largest anti-sexual-violence organization in the United States. He said he was learning that a good role is not the only criterion for taking a job.
