Texas A&M graduation Countdown
Texas A&M opened in 1876 as the state's first public institution of higher learning and now enrolls more students than any other campus in Texas. Spring commencement runs across four days of ceremonies — May 12–15 in 2027 — most of them in Reed Arena, with another full slate each December. This countdown always targets the next ceremony.

From military college to Texas's largest campus
Opened in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, A&M was the state's first public institution of higher learning — and an all-male military college for most of its first century. President James Earl Rudder, the Class of 1932 D-Day hero who led Rangers up the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, opened admission to women in the 1960s and set the modern university in motion. Today more than 72,000 students study in College Station, with flagship strength in engineering, agriculture, and veterinary medicine.
Ten ceremonies, one Aggie Network
Aggie graduation is a production: spring 2026 saw more than 13,000 diplomas awarded across ten ceremonies in four days, most of them in Reed Arena. The traditions land hardest here — many graduates finally turn their Aggie Ring so the class year faces outward, the way it's worn once the degree is earned, and the Association of Former Students welcomes every new graduate into the worldwide Aggie Network. December commencement is nearly as large, so winter Aggies get the full treatment too.
Graduates, class by class
The Class of 1932 gave the world James Earl Rudder, who led Army Rangers up the Normandy cliffs and later remade his alma mater as its president. The Class of 1958's John David Crow won A&M's first Heisman Trophy in 1957 under Bear Bryant. Randy Matson, Class of 1967, set shot put world records and won Olympic gold; Rick Perry, Class of 1972, was a yell leader before becoming Texas's longest-serving governor; and the Class of 1980 produced both four-time Grammy winner Lyle Lovett and Michael Fossum, who commanded the International Space Station.
Planning the trip — and sharing the date
College Station hotels sell out for graduation the way they do for Kyle Field Saturdays — book along University Drive or Texas Avenue early. Reed Arena ceremonies limit guest seating, so confirm ticket details for your graduate's specific session, and note that ceremonies are split by college across four days before family books flights.
