Back to London, alone, at fifteen

Born in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, Dua moved with her family to Pristina in 2008 - then made the boldest call of her life at 15, returning to London alone and living with a family friend because a pop career felt impossible from Kosovo. She waited tables, modeled, and posted YouTube covers of Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera until the originals got noticed. By 2014 she had a Warner record deal; by 2019, the Best New Artist Grammy.

The song that would not leave the charts

Future Nostalgia, her gleaming disco-pop opus released in March 2020, won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. Its single 'Levitating' pulled off something stranger: it never hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, yet finished as Billboard's No. 1 song of all of 2021, logging 77 weeks on the chart and 41 weeks in the top ten - a record run for a song by a woman.

Sunny Hill: bringing the world to Pristina

With her father Dukagjin, Dua co-founded the Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina in 2018, funneling proceeds to their Sunny Hill Foundation for education and community projects in Kosovo. In 2021 the foundation opened the Sunny Hill Kindergarten in Tirana, Albania, serving around 300 children in an area hit by the 2019 earthquake. In 2022, President Vjosa Osmani named her an honorary ambassador of Kosovo.
