Cyber Monday — the Monday after Thanksgiving — is the online bookend to Black Friday and routinely the biggest internet shopping day of the year in the United States. This countdown targets the next one.
The term was coined in 2005 by the National Retail Federation after retailers noticed a surge in online orders the Monday after Thanksgiving, as shoppers returned to work and faster connections. It has since become one of the largest e-commerce days anywhere.
Cyber Monday always falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving, capping the long Black Friday weekend. Many retailers now stretch online promotions through the whole 'Cyber Week.'
